Mutton Curry Recipe

Mutton curry is a very popular Asian dish. If you are a meat lover, it is a wonderful dish that you can have at lunch with rice. The important thing that you need to know about this recipe is that it is a very slow-cooked dish. It means that you will have to give it time. If you are in a hurry, you should not go for this dish. In such a case, the mutton will be half-boiled and you will not get the ultimate taste from the gravy.

Ingredients

The ingredients that you need for the marination are as follows:

  • ½ tbsp. red chili powder
  • ¼ tsp. turmeric powder
  • ½ tbsp. salt
  • 1 ¼ tsp. ginger garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp. curd
  • 300 grams mutton

You need the below-mentioned items for the mutton gravy:

  • 2 green cardamoms
  • 1 ½  tbsp. of oil
  • 1-inch cinnamon
  • 1 cup onion
  • 1 chopped green chili
  • ¼ cup of tomato puree
  • 2 tsp. meat masala
  • ½ cup of water
  • 2 sprigs curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp. of coriander leaves
  • Salt and pepper

Process

First, you will have to do preparation. For this, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Marinate the mutton with curd, chili powder, turmeric, ginger-garlic paste, and salt. Curd and ginger garlic paste are used in order to make mutton tender.
  • Keep the marinated mutton aside for 1 hour. The more you invest time in marination, the more it will become tender and softer. You can keep it overnight for the best taste.
  • Keep it out of the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before cooking.

Make Mutton Curry

Now, you will have to make the mutton curry. You need to do the following for this:

  • First, you will have to heat the oil in a pan and then you need to sauté the cardamom, cinnamon, and bay leaf for at least 2 minutes. 
  • After this, you will have to add green chilies and onions. You need to fry them until you are getting a golden texture.
  • After this, you will have to lower the flame and then, you need to transfer the sauté and marinated mutton over it for at least 7 minutes. Then, cook it for 10 minutes on high flame. After that, add water and mix it very well. Then, you need to cook it for 1 hour on medium-low flame. Finally, mutton curry will be ready.
